Stop heating up the polity - Orji to state opposition

The Government of Abia state has accused opposition parties of causing tension in the state through alleged “incessant dishing of falsehood” aimed at heating up the polity.

The government insisted that the state would remain peaceful despite the alleged attempt by the opposition parties and some perceived faceless groups to cause confusion in the state.

Speaking through Mr. Charles Ajunwa, Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to Governor Theodore Orji, the government cited a recent statement by a group known as “Abia Political Vanguard”, APV, which claimed Governor Orji and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that they were planning to rig the forthcoming elections and were denying opposition supporters Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs.

According to Ajunwa, “it has become a past time for faceless groups and their opposition collaborators in the state to shout wolf when there is none. It is particularly worrisome and ridiculous that an amorphous  group with an adopted name of Abia Political Vanguard, APV, would  engage in a wild allegation of accusing Governor Theodore Orji and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of planning to rig the forthcoming polls by depriving voters of their permanent voters cards, PVCs.

“If there is any grand design to rig the forthcoming elections in Abia, it should be located in the realm where the so called President of APV, one Godson Umahi, and his cohorts reside and manufacture their falsehoods to deceive the public.

It was unthinkable that Governor Orji, who has been mobilizing state resources to ensure that Abia voters obtain their permanent voters cards, PVCs, will turn round to disenfranchise the same people by depriving them of their PVCs. No Abia civil servant was asked to turn in his or her PVC” as alleged by Umahi, saying that the “government has rather continued to enlighten and educate the citizens to go to their different Local Government Areas to obtain their PVCs.”
